"The idea for this composition came during a holiday in Bastelica, Corsica, where most of my time was spent near mountain streams and waterfalls. Spending hours in that sonic environment, I started to realise how muffled, distant, fuzzy everything sounded. A family picnic, a dozen meters away, seemed to be completely diffused in my perception of the soundscape, blended with the silver sounds of the trees and the water running on the stone bed. My friend’s voice, calling over from the other side of the stone bridge, was drowned in the noise, and only came to me in fragments. He was only a few meters away, but the sonic energy in the air made it feel like he was much further. The masks of the Prunelli is a play on the perceptual threshold of discrete sounds amidst a lavish, noisy, dense soundscape like that of a torrent."
